Life with three little boys is naturally a bit wild. All. The. Time. I am used to loud noises, big messes, laughs, tears and wrestling matches on the living room floor. But I had no idea what we were in for when we invited college friends and their families to join us at the cabin for New Years.

Dane played college baseball at CSU and some of his teammates have become lifelong friends. We all attended each other's weddings years ago, but since then life has been crazy and we haven't spent as much time together as we'd like. We randomly threw out an invite to join us at Powderhorn for New Years, and miraculously, it worked for everyone. One family drove over from Denver and the other flew in from Ohio.

For five days we had six adults, eight kids and one dog in one cabin. The kids were ages 9, 7, 7, 7, 6, 4, 4 and 4. We packed the days with skiing, sledding, snow forts, cocoa bomb making, puzzle building, darts, shuffleboard and laser tag.

New Year's Eve was rung in with fireworks and torchlight parade at Powderhorn Resort. We did a 9pm countdown so that we could be up and out the door bright and early New Year's Day.

Meals were insane. My kids are picky. Their kids are picky. I think most of the kids subsisted on bags of puffy Cheetos and hot cocoa with sides of frozen yogurt tubes. It's all about balance, right?

The cabin suffered a broken door, dart holes in the walls and boogies wiped everywhere, but it survived. I'm convinced it's bomb-proof. The memories made this year are going to be hard to top. Ever.
